About Us
Breaking down barriers one girl at a time.

The computer science industry reflects that there is a large deficit of female leaders and engineers in the field of technology. The problem lies in the fact that girls and young women are often discouraged from pursuing careers in Math and Science often subscribing to the belief that such professions are meant to be dominated and filled by men. As a result, many of these young girls grow up believing that they are incapable of excelling in STEM studies, which means that they miss out on the opportunity to discover that these career paths offer a diverse array of high-paying jobs as well as invaluable skills that they can use in any profession.

GirlCode aims to address these problems through the following
-
Raising awareness about the importance of women in the tech industry,
-
Providing resources for parents, educators, community leaders who seek to address the gender gap in the tech community
-
Providing resources and in-depth computer science training to young girls

In 2014, we partnered with FedEx to kickoff our pilot program which involved a 5 week summer coding camp, and a day long hackathon serving nearly 80 students. Today, we are serving nearly 200 students offering several intensive coding camps throughout the year, as well as 2 after-school programs, 3 in-school electives programs, and special events in the greater Memphis Area.
